critic reviews

89/100Lisa Perrotti-Brown,The Wine Independent

A blend of 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Petit Verdot, the 2000 Kirwan has a deep garnet-brick color. It rolls effortlessly out of the glass with evolved notes of sweaty leather, iodine, dusty soil and dried figs, leading to wafts of star anise and dried cherries. The medium-bodied palate gives a chewy texture and racy acidity to support the mature dried berries and earthy flavors, finishing with great length if a little rustic.

Full ruby color. Vibrant, deep aromas of cassis, blackberry, minerals, licorice and smoky oak. Large-scaled and impressively rich in the mouth; chewy and very concentrated. A rather powerfully structured, nicely delineated wine that should be long-lived. Another Margaux chateau that has improved dramatically over the last few years.
