Similar soils to the limestone of Marsannay’s Clos de Jeu, packed full of fossils and minerals. Gripping, powerful Gevrey with a tight-knit tannic quality to the dark berry and rocky flavours, finishing on notes of sweet spice and forest floor. Situated on the north side of Gevrey planted on poor soils with a strong limestone influence.
critic reviews
The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru has a very high-toned bouquet of black cherries, cassis and blueberry, a little monotone and more winemaking than wine. The palate is sweet on the entry, over-extracted and lacking tension. The almost viscous, cassis and marmalade finish needs more delineation and freshness. So-so. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.
