Saarburger Rausch, Riesling, Kabinett, 2018

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

The Zillikens bottled more Auslese than Kabinett in 2018, which goes to show the exceptional levels of ripeness they experienced. The Rausch Kabinett was harvested above 90 Oeschle, normally at the upper end of Spatlese. Chamomile and tropical fruit notes, peaches and concentrated plum flavours coat the mouth in this Kabinett of charm and hedonistic pleasure.

critic reviews

92/100David Schildknecht,Vinous

Ripe apple, quince and honeydew melon are seductively garlanded in honeysuckle and peony as well as backed by wet stone on both the nose and the polished, buoyant, luscious palate. The lingering finish is animating, consummately refreshing and mouthwateringly salt-suffused. Once again, here is a Zilliken Riesling that looks on paper like a Spätlese destined to taste overly sweet, yet manages to come off as only subtly so, while offering at least good arguments – even if some tasters will be unconvinced – for its having been labeled Kabinett.

The 2018 Rausch Kabinett is ripe and floral on the nose, while the palate is lush, moderately sweet and filigreed, revealing a nice, stimulating mineral grip. Tasted in June 2019.
