Barolo, Brunate, 2011

justerini & brooks tasting note

Brooding, sweet fruit with a strong earthy complexity. Gripping, tight and layered with a tannic spine giving structure but a balancing sweet red and dark berry fruitiness on the finish. Additional complex notes of liquorice and cinnamon make for a wonderfully complete Barolo that is as high toned as it is profound. One of the top Cru vineyards of Barolo, situated high up in the La Morra commune. Aged in 25% new oak barriques for 24 months, however the intensity and power of this wine mean that the oak influence on it is minimal.

critic reviews

93/100Antonio Galloni,Vinous

The 2011 Barolo Brunate is dark, powerful and muscular in style, quite a contrast to the decidedly more feminine Bricco Viole. Some of the personality of Brunate appears to be covered by the richness of the vintage, yet there is plenty to like here as well. Dark plum, menthol, leather and cedar are some of the notes that wrap around the pliant, inviting finish. This is another 2011 that will drink well right out of the gate.
