Barolo, Brunate, 2015

justerini & brooks tasting note

Very fine and complex aromas. A seductive nose of red fruits and spices. A gentle touch of woody spice and vanilla on the palate compliment the lacy, fine red berry characteristics. Gorgeously-shaped and exquisitely balanced. Warming, summer-ripe strawberries infused with mulled spices glide across the palate. Silky but measured. Pure seduction. One of the top Cru vineyards of Barolo, situated high up in the La Morra commune. Marengo's parcel of Brunate is at 350 metres altitude has been owned by his family since 1903 and the vines average seventy years old. Aged in 25% new oak barriques for 24 months.

critic reviews

95+/100Monica Larner,Robert Parker Wine Advocate

The 2015 Barolo Brunate is decidedly not a shy wine. It opens to dark color saturation and varietal aromas that are dark and thick in character. That characteristic power and determination of the Brunate cru is played forward with perfect pitch. This wine shows compact and firm structure, like tight bricks layered one on top of the other, to form the density and richness that makes such a lasting impact on the palate. Some 3,700 bottles were created.

The 2015 Barolo Brunate is another enticing wine in this range. Black cherry, spice, leather and licorice all flesh out in the glass. The breadth and textural resonance that are such signatures of Brunate emerge effortlessly. I would give the 2015 a few years in bottle to come together. Even in the early going, the 2015 exudes class. The Brunate is the darkest and most powerful wine in this range.
