Auf dem Haun, Spätburgunder, 2020
Auf dem Haun is situated directly above the Heerweg in the steeper, higher part of the slope where the limestone composition reaches 75% in the subsoil. Here, acidity is preserved for longer, which means they can pick later. It is windy and exposed. Lifted, pointed aromatics, the structure and shape of the Auf dem Haun is vertical and ethereal with a certain strictness to the tannins. Simone Adams owns about one hectare here. A west facing site, the wine is fermented with 100% whole clusters and raised for 18 months in used barrique.

From extreme limestone soils with just a 60-centimeter layer of silt topping the white rocks, the Ingelheim 2020 Auf dem Haun Spatburgunder shows a deep, pure, finely intense and spicy/toasty bouquet of sour cherries, black berries, redcurrant, licorice and fresh oak. It is coolish, refined and beautifully deep thanks to the cooler, late-ripening terroir. On the palate, this is a juicy, dense and fleshy as well as spicy, very precise and elegant Pinot with young, concentrated fruit and finely spicy, silky, still young and grippy tannins (100% whole clusters). It has a mouthwatering finish. This is a stunning Pinot Noir for a moderate price. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in July 2023.
