Brunello Di Montalcino, 2010

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Great sweetness of fruit but fine and reserved too, everything is here in harmony. Ripe bright red berry fruit, garriguettes and herb flavurs. Streamlined but not at all austere, wonderfully fine binding tannins and a refreshing, edgy acidity. Crystal clear and pure without being too sober or severe. Brilliant. Le Ragnaie’s Riccardo Campinoti believes this to be “My best vintage, a nice combination of a great season and the experience I have been building up over the years. Everything happened at the right time, the season was mild and balanced, the grapes were in perfect shape.” 60% of the grapes for this blend come from vines at Ragnaie itself, at 550 metres above sea level, the highest vines in Montalcino, complemented by grapes coming from Petroso and Castelnuovo dell’Abate. The wine is aged in large used wooden cask for 36 months.

critic reviews

95/100Antonio Galloni,Vinous

The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is gorgeous. A super-classic profile of sweet red cherries, smoke, tobacco, cedar and wild herbs lift from the glass in a perfumed, silky Brunello that captures the essence of Sangiovese in this cool, late-ripening vintage. The 2010 is delicious today, but it can also be cellared for another 15-20 years. Le Ragnaie's 2010 will appeal to readers with an appreciation for Red Burgundy or Nebbiolo. The 2010 is a blend of fruit from three sources. About 50% of the fruit came from the Ragnaie property, while the rest of the fruit was sourced from vineyards in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, a combination that yields a wonderfully complete Brunello full of intrigue.
