Domaine de Cambes, Bordeaux, 2023
A classic Domaine de Cambes, in that it's probably one of the most singular wines in all of Bordeaux, but what else would you expect? Made from the slopes closest to the river, below the Roc de Cambes vineyard, there is a tell-tale bouquet of degraded fruits, cooked plums, spices and a hint of umami. There's a creamy core of sweet, decadent fruit with lashings of toasty oak and supportive tannins. Overall, it is a pretty cohesive Domaine de Cambes. If you like the Mitjavile style, this will give lots of pleasure.
critic reviews
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 de Cambes comes bounding out with exuberant notes of baked plums, ripe boysenberries, and wild sage leading to hints of black truffle and fragrant soil. The medium to full-bodied palate has lovely tension and a firm texture of grippy tannins supporting the generous fruit, finishing long and earthy.
François and Émile Mitjavile owners at this good quality estate located next to the river Garonne below Château Roc de Cambes. Spicy, tight in its tannic frame with dark blue fruits and raspberry leaf aromatics.
The 2023 Domaine des Cambes has a much richer bouquet than the l'Aurage (from the Mitjavile family). Just a touch of tinned prune filters through the black cherry fruit, shaving away a bit of delineation. The palate is sweet and candied, slightly savory in style with a Tuscan-tinged finish. I feel this might be a bit late-picked.
