Beaune, Grèves, 1er Cru, 2017

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Good depth and concentration. Structured and powerful but the tannins are velvety. There is a little bit of sap and undergrowth notes to the bramble and dark cherry fruit that gives a vibrant, digest feel to the wine. Gripping, wholesome and complex. From 65 year-old vines planted on soils with more clay than the Domaine’s Beaune Sizies giving a denser wine. Fermented with a third whole bunches and aged in 20% new oak.

critic reviews

90/100Neal Martin,Vinous

The 2017 Beaune Grèves 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of red berry fruit, rose petal and light earthy tones. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, and slightly chalky and gritty in texture. Sharp acidity on the finish oddly lends a Chianti-like allure. This will need careful partnering at the dinner table, though I did note some improvement in the glass. Closure is Diam 30 Organic. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.
