    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

A little reductive and surly on the nose, but the palate reveals a lot of complexity, energy and stature. Deep, dark notes of cassis and bramble are the dominant flavours, with enough crunch and vibrancy to keep them lifted and interesting. At the heart of its robust foundations, this wine shows a tightly-coiled energy that drives the rich, fullsome fruit through to the finish. Though a little taciturn to begin with, there is alot to like here and it has all of the elements to suggest great ageing potential. A 0.47 ha parcel of 35 year old vines planted in the Les Combes lieu dit - a south west facing site planted on red clay soils.

The 2019 Corton Les Combes Grand Cru comes from a 0.5-hectare parcel located on the southern face of the hill. This has one of the more reduced aromatics of the range, as it had been racked the previous week, plus the temperature had dropped in the winery in the days preceding my visit. The palate is succulent on the entry, featuring a well-defined and red cherry fruit. Nice grip here, and sappy, though I would like to see more finesse and persistence on the finish once in bottle.
