Ghislaine Barthod, Chambolle Musigny, Les Veroilles, 1er Cru, 2005

Spicy aromatics precede a beautiful, close-knit high-toned palate, lovely elegant juicy ripe fruits and cool mineral tones, flavours of cherry, raspberry and cherry stone, this shows a Bonnes Mares-like muscle and depth.

Saturated ruby-red. Brilliantly pure nose offers cassis, blackberry, violet, minerals and crushed rock. Lush, fat and thick but with terrific lift. The mineral and violet flavors are currently accompanied by a superripe suggestion of chocolate that Barthod is confident will disappear with time in bottle. This very large-scaled, mouthfilling wine has a texture of liquid velvet, but there's also terrific cut. Another great bottle in the making but this, too, will need at least a decade in the cellar.
