    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Chunky, smooth dark berry fruit character. Dense and velvety with a saltiness and freshness to give it focus. Aromatic brambly flavours with notes of loganberry raspberry and rock salt. Very clear and lively but seductive and full. This is one of Chambolle’s higher Crus sitting adjacent to Bonnes-Mares. It also has denser soils than its neighbouring Chambolle vineyards often producing very intense, mineral but powerful and compact wines, rather like Bonnes-Mares in style.

The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Les Véroilles 1er Cru, whose 0.38 hectares will be labeled monopole from next year, has a straightforward bouquet that perhaps does not quite deliver the same complexity as the other Premier Crus. The palate is medium-bodied with a sorbet-fresh opening; veins of orange peel and marmalade tincture the dark berry fruit, and a tang of oyster shell emerges toward the precise finish. Very fine.
