Chambolle Musigny, Les Veroilles, 1er Cru, 2019
Whilst this is no shrinking violet (power has always been in this cuvee's DNA,) this is a particularly lifted suave and noble rendition. Like a mini, neatly turned-out Bonnes Mares. The aromas offer lift and airy fresh raspberry notes amid the dark fruit, whilst the palate is dominated by bramble and sloe notes, yet there is vitality and minerality too. The fruit has muscle to it but there are curves and nuance as well. An intense but beautifully harmonious, classy Veroilles. This is one of Chambolle’s higher Crus sitting adjacent to Bonnes-Mares. It also has denser soils than its neighbouring Chambolle vineyards often producing very intense, mineral but powerful and compact wines, rather like Bonnes Mares in style.
critic reviews
The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Veroilles is just as compelling as I predicted from barrel. Mingling notes of cherries and wild berries with scents of exotic spices, raw cocoa and forest floor, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and searingly concentrated, with a lively spine of acidity, melting tannins and a long, pungently mineral finish. Taut and vibrant, it will demand at least a decade's patience.
The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Véroilles 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of blackberry, wild strawberry, sea spray and light iodine aromas. The palate is very concentrated, offering kirsch and orange zest flavors on the entry that dovetail into dark plum and black currant notes. Fine delineation here from start to finish, and just a touch of white pepper on the finish. Very assured. This is one of the finest contributions to the vintage from the domaine.
