Paolo Scavino
Barolo, Bric del Fiasc, 1998
justerini & brooks tasting note
The same vineyard as Azelia’s Bricco Fiasco but named using the Piedmontese dialect. A typical Barolo from the heavy clay soils of Castiglione with its dense, muscular body without any trace of the harsher elements found in lesser examples. There is plenty of ‘fat’ and explosive flavours of coffee bean, dark chocolate and dried fruit to balance the grainy tannin.

The 1998 Scavino Barolo Bric del Fiasc, tasted from magnum, is one of the more accessible wines of the vintage. It reveals a super-ripe, concentrated style with notable inner sweetness and perfume. The finish is long and silky although the 1998 doesn't have the sheer pedigree of top vintages here.
