Barolo, Bric dël Fiasc, 2010
An incredibly open Bric del Fiasc that shows a gentler touch than usual without sacrificing complexity in the slightest. A stunningly beautiful example, offering bramble, cherry and blueberry fruit notes of mineral stone and tea leaf. Powerful but pliable, less rigid than this usually is in its youth, sweet fresh and crunchy. Glorious. Bric dël Fiasc is Piedmontese dialect for Bricco Fiasco, the top of the Fiasco vineyard. Situated in Castiglione Falleto, this is one of the great Crus of the region that makes powerful but classy, age worthy wines. It was the first single vineyard bottling Scavino released starting from the 1978 vintage.
critic reviews
Dark red fruit, iron, smoke, incense and orange peel are some of the many notes that flesh out in the 2010 Barolo Bric del Fiasc. A deep, fleshy Barolo, the Bric del Fiasc is incredibly polished and refined, with perhaps a bit less power than previous vintages, but more in the way of finesse. At this stage, the Bric del Fiasc comes across as not fully formed. It will be interesting to see what the next year brings.
