Barolo, Bric del Fiasc, 2012
Rich and spicy this is the deepest and most powerful 2012 of the Scavino range, full bodied, layered and complex. Notes of creme de mure, leather, earth and dark berries with notes of sweet spices. Impressive and enveloping muscle-bound flavours. Bric dël Fiasc is Piedmontese dialect for Bricco Fiasco, the top of the Fiasco vineyard. Situated at 280 metres above sea level in Castiglione Falleto, this is one of the great Crus of the region that makes powerful but classy, age worthy wines. It was the first single vineyard bottling Scavino released starting from the 1978 vintage.
critic reviews
The 2012 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is embryonic at this stage. In two tastings so far, the 2012 has comes across as relatively light by this wine's standards, while the site specific signatures that are so typical never seem to develop. It will be interesting to see if the 2012 Bric del Fiasc gains depth in bottle. Today, it is a bit of a mystery.
