critic reviews
The 1999 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is utterly impeccable from start to finish. Vivid, layered and totally beautiful, the 1999 caresses the palate with tons of nuance and pure pedigree. Sweet red fruit, flowers mint and dried herbs are just some of the many notes that blossom in the glass. Once a brute, the 1999 has developed into a sophisticated, refined Barolo of the highest level. Sweet, floral notes add further lift on the expressive, perfumed finish. The 1999 has more than enough depth to drink well for many, many years. Sweet roses, mint and licorice add the final nuances in a memorable Barolo from Scavino.
Scavino is the producer who put the Fiasco vineyard on the map, and the 1999 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is impressive. A potent and penetrating nose of tobacco, chocolate, and tar is followed by a palate of mouthfilling, concentrated, high-extract yet sweet flavors, abundantly endowed with licorice, tar, and minerals. The wine is very solid in texture, but voluptuous in its caressing tactile sensations. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2022.
