Barolo, Brunate, 2014
Not the most expressive initially but the depth and richness of Brunate is clear to see. Wonderfully bright, vivid small red berry married to more earthy, spice characteristics. Wild strawberry, Asian spice and cigar box notes. The brilliant fruit piercing brightly through the brooding and savoury structure of the wine. One of the great crus of Barolo, situated high up in the La Morra commune just underneath La Serra, with an east / south east exposure. Aged for two years in a mixture of barriques and large cask (30% new oak), only 500 bottles were produced.
critic reviews
The 2014 Barolo Brunate is a powerhouse wine that is going to require at least a few years to shed some of its formidable tannin. Big and ample on the palate, with striking depth, the 2014 captures all of the virile intensity this site is known for. The black cherry, lavender, menthol, licorice and dark spice flavors take on shades of gravitas and exoticism in this deep, structured Barolo from Roberto Voerzio.
