The 1996 Barolo La Serra is another big, intense wine. Dark and explosive, the 1996 exudes power. La Serra is a site that tends to produce fresh, aromatic Barolos that also have a very distinctive edgy quality to their tannins. In this vintage, the tannins of the site and those of the oak are quite prominent. Even so, the 1996 has retained a good bit of vibrancy.
The superb 1996 Barolo La Serra's opaque ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of black fruits (blackberry, cherry, and a hint of raspberry), superb purity, highly extracted, powerful, monster-sized flavors, mouth-searing levels of tannin, and an impressively endowed, 40+ second finish. This backward, pure, intensely concentrated Barolo will require patience. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2025. Importer: Viva Vino, Eddystone, PA; tel. (610) 872-1500
