Barolo, La Serra, 2019
Crispy salty, firm with a mineral, limestone spine and lavender and forest fruited top notes. Initially a little closed, after fifteen minutes in the glass it proved to be a real shape shifter, offering up bramble and cocoa, wild flowers and a dart like beam of freshness. This is Voerzio’s highest Barolo vineyard, situated in the commune of La Morra, at between 380 to 430 metres above sea level with great east south-east exposure. Aged for two years in small barrels, light toast, French oak 20% new.
critic reviews
The 2019 Barolo La Serra is one of the best editions from this site, one of the vineyards Roberto Voerzio got his start with. It offers up a beguiling mix of dark cherry, plum, licorice, lavender and sage. The darker side of Nebbiolo comes alive in this striking, translucent Barolo from Roberto Voerzio. The tannins are firm and sweeping, but there is more than enough fruit to provide balance.
