critic reviews
This wine is made with fruit from the estate's youngest vines that are now 20 years old. The organic Monteraponi 2021 Chianti Classico is Sangiovese with 5% Canaiolo from high-elevation alberello or bush-trained vines. Vintner Michele Braganti and his talented team turn out some of the most elegant expressions from this part of Tuscany. This wine showcases the unique house style despite its so-called entry-level status. Indeed, it punches above its price point to offer delicate berry nuances, wild violet, crushed limestone and more finessed nuances. Average annual production is from 35,000 to 40,000 bottles, and this is an excellent value buy.
Just bottled, the 2021 Chianti Classico is a powerful, wild wine. Readers will have to give the 2021 quite a bit of time, as it is dense. Floral and savory overtones, with a kick of white pepper and orange peel, open with a bit of coaxing, but the 2021 is an infant. Bright saline notes are a reminder we are in Radda. The 2021 is a blend of mostly younger vines from various parcels across the property. It spent 15 months in cask.
