Château La Fleur Pétrus

Château La Fleur Pétrus, Pomerol, 2024

justerini & brooks tasting note

La Fleur Petrus 2024 is initially a little reserved. With aeration a vibrant bouquet emerges, showcasing aromas of cassis, mulberries, and red cherries, intertwined with minerals, graphite, and dark chocolate. On the palate, there is good tension and a notable length of fruit, featuring smart, small berries and notes of graphite. Quite linear and strict, this is a reticent La Fleur Petrus built upon classical lines. If this fleshes out a little during élevage, it will be a very handsome Pomerol.

Deep garnet-purple colored. Springs from the glass with vibrant notes of fresh blackberries and kirsch, leading to hints of iron ore, red roses, and damp soil. The medium-bodied palate delivers firm, velvety tannins and a great core of red and black fruit, backed up by a well-knit acidity, finishing long and spicy.

The 2024 La Fleur-Pétrus was picked from September 17 to 28 and aged in 50% new oak. This does not have the amplitude or complexity of the Trotanoy on the nose and it's green around the edges. The palate is medium-bodied and lightly spiced, with supple tannins and a dash of black pepper and tobacco. The finish demonstrates decent weight and character for the vintage. I appreciate the aftertaste here that lingers in the mouth. This is capable!

Gently toasted cedar and sandalwood, violet, lilac, powdery rose, plush fruits, savoury in the spirit of the vintage but with texture and even generosity, and velvety tannins. A great job from La Fleur-Petrus, seriously impressive and one to look out for - my wine of the Moueix stable in 2024. 50% new oak. Harvest 17 to 28 September, no chaptilisation, around 20% down on yield from a usual year.

Aromas of creamy dark berries, fruitcake and chocolate introduce the 2024 La Fleur-Petrus, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and supple wine that's rich and creamy, with good depth at the core and soft structuring tannins.
