critic reviews

95/100Neal Martin,Vinous

The 2020 Clos l'Église has a complex bouquet of blackberry, loam, hints of truffle and iron filings. The palate is well-balanced and full of freshness, with fine-boned tannins and seamlessly integrated oak toward the finish. This is a classy number—elegant, yet with plenty of horsepower. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

93/100William Kelley,Robert Parker Wine Advocate

Aromas of ripe plums and raspberries mingled with hints of rose petals and toasty new oak preface the 2020 Clos l'Eglise, a medium to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping wine with a broad attack that segues into a fleshy core of fruit, with powdery extract asserting itself on the youthfully chewy finish.

97/100Lisa Perrotti-Brown,The Wine Independent

The 2020 Clos L’Eglise is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It storms out of the glass with powerful notes of crushed plums, blackberry preserves, and boysenberries, plus suggestions of cast-iron pan, violets, and star anise. The medium to full-bodied palate reveals a rock-solid structure of firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness supporting the taut, muscular black fruits, finishing long and earthy.
