Maranges, La Fussière, 1er Cru, Blanc, 2023

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Another very smart Fussière, with wonderfully salty citrus fruit, fine detail and great freshness and tension throughout. With the cool flesh of the vintage, we’re at a stage now where this cuvée would vie for attention among many a lesser grower’s Pulignys… Fermentation and élevage take place in 350-litre barrels, with no bâtonnage, for 12 months before six months in stainless steel. This comes from the higher part of the Fussière vineyard where the poor soil is well-suited to producing white wines.

The 2023 Maranges La Fussières 1er Cru Blanc comes from 1.5 hectares of vines on shallow soils. It has quite a complex bouquet with linden, orange pith and light waxy aromas that discretely unfold in the glass. The palate is saline and fresh on the entry, well balanced with fine depth, though it perhaps does not quite muster the requisite mineralité on the finish (at the moment). Maybe afford this two or three years in bottle.
