Le Montrachet, Grand Cru, Marquis de Laguiche

Le Montrachet, Grand Cru, Marquis de Laguiche, 2008

justerini & brooks tasting note

A little more immediately expressive than is usually the case, though this has not lost any of its traditional sophistication or intensity, long unctuous flavours of acacia, butter, minerals, citrus. A very intense wine displaying both richness and tension, it continues to expand and develop on the mile-long finish.

critic reviews

94/100Neal Martin,Vinous

The 2008 Montrachet Grand Cru is a vintage that I had not tasted before. Véronique Drouhin commented that the clement harvest weather saved the vintage, but it was a small yield with small berries that were high in acidity. The 2008 is showing beautifully at the moment. It has a fabulous bouquet of honeycomb, yellow flowers, crushed stone and even a touch of gingerbread. The palate conveys an effervescent quality, showing veins of orange peel and mandarin, and less mineralité than the 2009 but a fine saline finish. It improves in the glass, so do not be afraid to decant this. Tasted at the Montrachet vertical in London.
