Le Montrachet, Grand Cru, Marquis de Laguiche, 2011

justerini & brooks tasting note

Concentrated and even if a little closed and surly on the nose, the texture on the palate simply melts in the mouth; rich with without being cloying, hints of violet, intense citrus and citrus rind fruit, notes of acacia and wild honey, melted butter and a twist of fruit blossom. Glorious. Needs time to open up, but excellent.

The 2011 Montrachet Grand Cru corresponds to the bottle tasted four years earlier. Again, it's pretty reticent at first, toying with you and opening with linden and marine scents, though not furnishing the drinker with the full complement of aromas a Montrachet can deliver. The palate is well-balanced, a little waxy in texture and poised with an unexpected quasi-Sémillon finish. A quirky Montrachet... But that's not written pejoratively.
