Volnay, Les Fremiets, 1er Cru, 2022

An excellent rendition of Fremiets, which is a vineyard of such distinctive and assured character. Typically one of the more muscled and dense Volnays of the cellar, this is true to type yet demonstrates such precision and detail, too. This gripping edge works beautifully with the natural glow of the 2022 vintage. There is lift, transparency and delicate florals lightening the dense dark cherry and mineral-flecked fruit. Powerful but harmonious and grounded. This hails from a clay dominated vineyard on the north side of the village, further up the hill from Clos des Angles, and so the soil is less deep here – the resulting wine is more structured and mineral.
