Frauenberg, Riesling, Grosses Gewächs, 2023

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Bright and dazzling with a tight lemony profile, Frauenberg is a wine of white stone, minerals and gently pressed flowers. Buttressed by nervy acidity, briny stone fruits, elderflower and limes, there is a sense of lightness and transparency here that is simply startling. A very windy site that offers up light to the Hergott’s darkness. The soil is extremely rocky and stony, not heavy at all. Buffeted by wind from the Zellertal valley, sitting at 280m above sea level, this is always the last vineyard to be harvested and the wines have an aromatic clarity that is second to none.

94/100Stephan Reinhardt,Robert Parker Wine Advocate

The intensely yellow-colored 2023 Nieder-Florsheim Frauenberg GG is intense yet pure and chalky on the nose that is reminiscent of crushed rocks with lemon oil. Textured, finely saline and with weathered chalk featured on the powdery-silky palate, this full-bodied, layered and elegant Riesling is beautifully balanced and savory-saline on the mouth-watering finish. This is gentle and even silky for a wine from pure white limestone. 12.5% stated alcohol. Diam cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2024.

Grown at 280 meters, the 2023 Riesling Nieder-Flörsheimer Frauenberg Grosses Gewächs immediately has a gentle, creamy tone on the nose, fringed with a touch of savory ivy. Lemon brightness follows that creaminess, running right through onto the smooth, svelte but exquisitely luminous and salty palate. There’s such sleekness here—a wonderful marriage of creamy texture and pristine, cool, chalky lemon. Immense charm, freshness and elegance just glide and shine on the long, long finish that is as soothing as it is refreshing. This is grace and poise in a bottle. (Bone-dry)
