Barolo, San Rocco, 2007

justerini & brooks tasting note

Brooding, rich but brilliant and lively, this betrays the dark chocolate, liquorice and star anise spice that is to be so often expected of this cuvée, added to a distinct a very welcome minerally and flinty edge that is less common. Super ripe, svelte, mouthfilling and voluptuous flavours of ripe fruits and sweet spices. One of the stars of the vintage. A first class single vineyard from the Serralunga commune whose wines are very distinct from those of Bricco Fiasco, being often darker, denser and spicier. The vines are between 40 and 50 years old and the wine is aged in 20% new wood for 24 months.

Bright dark red. Pure but very subdued aromas of red berries and flowers, showing good life for the vintage. Tightly wound and youthful on entry, then shows more pliant, savory flavors of black cherry, menthol and flowers. Sweet but serious tannins reach the front teeth. Finishes broad and palate-dusting. Solidly structured to age.
