Chianti Classico, Riserva, Il Campitello, 2015

justerini & brooks tasting note

The 2015 Campitello is bursting with lush, smooth, salt-tinged and herb-infused strawberry and raspberry characteristics. Gorgeous fruit and a savoury complexity bind seamlessly together to produce a juicy, melt in the mouth Chianti Classico of energy and class. A blend of 90% Sangiovese 8% Canaiolo and 2% Colorino. The 40 year old single vineyard is planted at 420 metres above sea level, facing south west, on Albarese (hard limestone ) and Galestro (softer limestone ) soils. The wine is aged in large French and Slavonian oak casks for 26 months

The 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Campitello is another gorgeous wine from Monteraponi. Powerful and structured, the 2015 delivers serious intensity from start to finish. Even with all of its natural richness, the 2015 retains terrific acidity and verve. It should age well for many years to come.

The 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Campitello does a great job of matching vintage to growing site. You get those plump red fruit flavors from the warm vintage contrasted against the crisp acidity and brightness that are characteristics of Radda in Chianti. This is a wine of dimension and depth. It offers a clean, linear or etched quality of fruit with wild cherry and rose hip at the front. Spontaneous fermentation with ambient yeasts occurs in cement vats followed by 26 months in botte grande. Fruit is sourced from a 46-year-old vineyard, and the blend is 90% Sangiovese, 8% Canaiolo and 2% Colorino.
