Barolo, La Serra
Roberto Voerzio

Barolo, La Serra, 2007

justerini & brooks tasting note

This is Voerzio’s highest Barolo vineyard, at 430 metres above sea level. It is not made every year, often because the vineyard succombs to hail, but when it is made it is usually pretty special. Earthier than the very fruity Cerequio but there is a lovely delicate fruit scent nonetheless, certainly fresher acids too, dense and compact yet lively and vital, super complex, diverse but highly complementary flavours of liquorice, red cherry, minerals, undergrowth, cherry blossom and sweet spices, more obviously tannic than the Cerequio and Brunate but such potential lies in wait, one of Voerzio’s best wines in 2007.

critic reviews

95/100Antonio Galloni,Vinous

Voerzio's 2007 Barolo La Serra is off the charts. This is an unusually dark, imposing La Serra bursting with notable intensity in its dark red fruit wrapped around a firm wall of tannin. At times open and perfumed, at others muscular and inward, La Serra shows the complexity and pedigree that makes Barolo such an intriguing wine. La Serra can sometimes present slightly hard tannins, but in 2007 there is so much fruit, that trait is virtually impossible to detect. The 2007 is one of the greatest La Serras of all time.
