    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Nicolas Audebert has taken the reigns from John Kolasa at Rauzan Segla and Canon. It has been a dream start for him; not only did St Emilion and Margaux enjoy the best of the conditions in 2015, his two estates, both owned by the Wertheimer brothers, are amongst the finest wines in their respective communes. It seems appropriate that the family who owns Chanel should produce such stylish clarets. One can hardly have a couture wine, but it seems that Nicolas has fashioned something that perfectly fits out palates. Initially there is a wonderful combination of lilacs, violets, plums and crème de cassis. On the palate there is a swathe of creamy summer pudding fruits: mulberries, loganberries and thimbleberries. It really is a very classy, refined effort, brimming with life and vitality, yet serious and complex with a haunting finish. In fashionista terms, this swag is a lust-have 2015!

Rauzan Ségla fully in its stride, fragrant peony and crushed rose petals that expand through the palate, just such a great expression of Cabernet at the 10 year point, coupled with a Margaux appellation signature, when the muscles and tannins turn toned and finessed, and the cassis fruit and raspberry leaf remain fragrant and juicy. Love it. 65% new oak, harvest September 10 to October 9, Nicolas Audebert just arrived from Cheval des Andes in this vintage.

The 2015 Rauzan-Segla is medium to deep garnet colored. It prances out with gregarious notes of redcurrant jelly, kirsch, and blackcurrant cordial, plus hints of rose oil and cloves with a waft of tree bark. The medium to full-bodied palate is chock full of fragrant red and black fruits, supported by plush, fine-grained tannins and beautiful freshness, finishing with fantastic length.

The 2015 Rauzan-Ségla has a very pure, charming bouquet of macerated dark cherries, blueberry and vanilla aromas; subtle violet and iris scents blossom with aeration in the glass. Quintessential Rauzan-Ségla. The clean, precise, medium-bodied palate offers supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity and a tightly wound but quite persistent finish. It feels more primal than its peers but there is huge potential here, testament to a château that is going places. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.
