Echézeaux, Grand Cru, 2017
Sweetly-scented, ethereal fruit with a little nerve and sinew to it as well, this is something really quite special. Gorgeous and flowing yet with detail and spark too. A long, floral and very complex array of red fruit - cherry, raspberry, alpine strawberry and damson with herbal overtones. Engaging yet poised and composed. Spellbinding Echézeaux from two prime plots, Les Rouges and Cruots.
critic reviews
The 2017 Echézeaux Grand Cru is quite reduced on the nose, offering darker fruit than its peers; a touch of wild mint emerges with time. There’s maybe too much winemaking evident at the moment. The palate is a little "soupy" on the entry but displays plenty of extraction. Dense and muscular for an Echezeaux, needing more terroir expression on the grippy finish. Odd showing... I'd like to reassess this at some point. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.
