Walter Scott new releases: “Their 2022s are wildly successful”

Ken Pahlow and Erica Landon of Walter Scott will do whatever it takes to deliver the highest-quality wine and the best representation of any given vintage. Their 2022s are wildly successful…Eric Guido, vinous.com

As an introduction to the highly sought after Walter Scott wines, the two Combe Verte wines are, for want of a better word, unimpeachable. Coming from Oregon’s Willamette Valley, though based around the cooler climate Eola-Amity Hills AVA, these new releases straddle the divide between the old and new worlds in terms of style and overall mouthfeel. We’ve been hugely impressed in multiple tastings.

The 2022 Pinot might be the best rendition we’ve tasted – a wine of great symmetry that offers exceptional quality for the price and brims with signature Walter Scott purity and energy. With a lovely ripe bright seamless quality to the fruit and great transparency, this is the perfect gateway to Ken and Erica’s increasingly excellent Pinot Noirs. If you hanker after well priced Pinot that has something to say, you’ll be hard pressed not to love a wine like this.

The Chardonnay continues in the hugely successful house style and bristles with salty smoky citrus fruits over a core of crisp white peach. Touches of roasted lemon pith on the finish give this another dimension and stick it firmly in the tastes-like-a-much-more-expensive-chardonnay camp. If taut gunflint, citrus and struck match flavours are those you seek out in your white Burgundies, this will appeal.

Both wines are in stock and ready to give huge enjoyment now, though neither would complain if cellared for a year or two.

The single vineyards will be released later this month.
