Lacoste Borie, Pauillac
Château Grand Puy Lacoste

Lacoste Borie, Pauillac, 2018

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Xavier Borie's Lacoste Borie is always one of the best values from the Medoc. The second wine of the splendid Grand Puy Lacoste offers Pauillac finesse and charm at an affordable price. In recent years it has perhaps become even more refined. As one would expect from one of Xavier's wines, there is a lovely Cabernet perfume of flowers, blackcurrants and bergamot. Nice definition, pure fresh bramble notes; crisp, pure and satisfying. Another beautifully judged Lacoste Borie brimming with cassis fruit and framed by elegant tannins. Great tension and poise. 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc.

critic reviews

90/100Lisa Perrotti-Brown,The Wine Independent

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Lacoste-Borie charges out with bombastic notes of stewed black plums, boysenberry preserves, and blackcurrant cordial with wafts of dried herbs and tobacco leaf. Full-bodied, the palate is soft and refreshing, delivering impactful black fruit preserves flavors with a spicy lift on the finish.

The 2018 Lacoste-Borie was picked September 21 to October 5 at 44hl/ha. It has a pleasant bouquet of blackberry, iodine and violet aromas, perhaps needing just a little more delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with a graphite-tinged entry. Supple and quite approachable, this is well-balanced with good acidity and some oakiness on the finish, though this is more likely due to racking several days previous to my visit. Fine, though it will hopefully flesh out a little by bottling time.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Lacoste-Borie opens with baked plums, stewed cherries, cassis and milk chocolate with earth and herbs. Medium to full-bodied, firm and chewy, it has a good fruit core and an herbal lift on the finish.
