Aromatically arresting, with wonderful florality alongside a touch of blood orange. Across the palate this is firm and focused. A strong core defines this, with less of the fat of Fuées, this is direct and focussed, and yet there’s great complexity tucked up within. Wonderful balance and energy, this leaves the mouth feeling utterly energised. Give this ball of energy enough time and you will be rewarded. Very long. This is one of Chambolle’s higher Crus sitting adjacent to Bonnes-Mares. It also has denser soils than its neighbouring Chambolle vineyards, often producing very intense, mineral but powerful and compact wines, rather like Bonnes Mares in style.

To my palate, the king of the cellar this year is the 2021 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Veroilles, a medium to full-bodied, pure and racy wine redolent of red berries, wet stones, rose petals and wild cherries. Deep and concentrated, it's taut and intensely flavored, with a bright spine of acidity and a searingly mineral finish. My handwritten notes conclude with "like licking stones!" This will delight Burgundy purists.

The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Véroilles 1er Cru has a delicate, yet focused bouquet with beguiling dark cherry, raspberry and tea leaf aromas. The palate is sweet and ripe on the entry, with finely-judged acidity. Some flesh on the finish that is missing on some of the other cuvées, and a lightly-spiced note. This is full of charm and is more promising than some of its fellow Chambolle Premier Crus.
