Saarburger Rausch, Riesling, Auslese, 2015

justerini & brooks tasting note

Still very clear on the nose despite the step up in sweetness; precise and clear with fantastic freshness and transparency for an Auslese. Pure fine long filigree on the palate, there's some botrytis but it's a mere background component, never dominating. Long and light footed. Really complex citrus, peach and chamomile and veering-on-tropical mango and apricot notes coming through on the finish. Complete and delicious.

critic reviews

93/100David Schildknecht,Vinous

Selection for this bottling involved breaking-out of clusters to favor shriveled and nobly botrytized berries, an approach that shows in a dominance of quince jelly, peach preserves and overripe musk melon. A curry-like pungency provides welcome contrast on the nose as well as on the creamy, expansive yet strikingly buoyant palate. For as far gone on botrytization and overripeness as this wine initially seems to be, its finish comes as a delightful shock, delivering infectious juiciness, animating hints of citrus, and a salinity that tugs at the salivary glands.
