Saarburger Rausch, Riesling, Auslese, 2019

justerini & brooks tasting note

The 30% botrytis is evidenced by the fresh apricot, pineapple and mango notes, a leaning towards the ripe tropical end of the spectrum, without sacrificing its immense elegance. On the palate, a creamy wave of fruit washes across the palate with complex notes of roasted pineapple, and sweet fresh peach studded with notes of hay and sweet pea. A generous, but nimble Auslese that is going to take some saying no to!

critic reviews

92/100David Schildknecht,Vinous

The 2019 Riesling Saarburger Rausch Auslese A.P. #3 offers pear, mirabelle, papaya and Persian melon, in overripe as well as jellied form, on a nose that benefits considerably from offsetting suggestions of peach kernel and sea breeze. The palate impression is lusciously fruited, expansive and creamy, and the soothingly lingering finish happily reprises subtle piquancy and salinity while offering ample fresh fruit juiciness.

The regular 2019 Rausch Riesling Auslese displays a bright color and offers a clear, delicate raisin aroma intermixed with notes of finely weathered slate and white champignons. Sweet and piquant on the silky-textured palate, this is a delicate and refined Auslese with fine botrytis notes on the finish. However, this 2019 is not exactly as precise and piquant as the finest Auslesen from the Saar, and it is slightly diffuse on the finish. 8% alcohol. Tasted from AP 03-20 in April 2020.
