Château d'Armailhac, 5ème Cru Classé, Pauillac, 2017
D’Armailhac is usually in the shadow of its stablemate Clerc Milon. It can have a bucolic style - not so in 2017. The Mouton team has produced a glorious d’Armailhac, one of the best we can remember. Produced from 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, this is really silky a polished, there's nothing rustic, it's just swathes of pure crisp plum, raspberry, aromatic cherries and garrigue. This is really harmonious; fragrant, polished fruit, good density a dollop of glycerine and impeccably mannered sweet tannins. Flashier than normal, but it is a delight. Bravo.
