Puligny Montrachet, Les Folatières, 1er Cru, 2020

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

High intensity but in a suave and seductive way - rich and concentrated, but classy and fresh with it. Floral honeysuckle and peach blossom aromas lead into a luxurious Mirabelle and acacia-laden palate, intricately woven together by a citrus thread. From a south east facing plot called "au Chaniot" abutting Montrachet, in the south east corner of Folatieres, touching Cailleret and Pucelles. Here the soil is an even mix of limestone and marne clay. Aged in 20% new oak for 12 months followed by 6 months in tank.

critic reviews

90/100Neal Martin,Vinous

The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru has a spicier bouquet than its peers, perhaps a little more amplitude and personality, though it needs to manifest more focus. It does seem to lose some precision with aeration. The palate is slightly bitter on the entry, fresh and saline, but it lacks depth towards the pithy finish. Maybe I caught this at the wrong moment? Certainly not bad, though not attaining the level I gauged from barrel a couple of years ago. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
