Châteauneuf du Pape, Cuvée Felix
Jean Paul Versino

Châteauneuf du Pape, Cuvée Felix, 2007

justerini & brooks tasting note

An exemplary old vines cuvée aged in two- to eight-year-old wooden barriques. A similar blend to the straight Châteauneuf with a little more Mourvèdre. The 2007 blend comprises 65% Grenache, 25% Mourvèdre and 5% Syrah with the remaining 5% a mixture of other varieties. The result of 22hl/ha, this is every bit as gourmand and luxurious as the straight Châteauneuf but a good deal more profound, with great depth and intensity, fine, creamy blackberry fruits, and notes of creme de mure, Asian spice, clove and white pepper. Spellbinding.

93/100Josh Raynolds,Vinous

Glass-staining purple. Exotically perfumed bouquet of dark berries, flowers and herbs, along with a note of olive tapenade. Very rich, palate-coating cassis and mulberry flavors are complemented by smoky garrigue and dark chocolate, with supple tannins adding support. An emphatically rich wine that stops just this side of over the top, finishing with a strong jolt of smoky Indian spices. This is already drinking well.
