Starts off with perky blueberry fruits, fine tannins, light in structure, with savoury lemongrass and slate construction. Perky and will be easy to approch within a few years of bottling. High Merlot in the blend which also explains its atypical feel. 36hl/h yield. 30% new oak, 57% of overall production.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Independent
A blend of 58% Merlot and 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2021 Le Marquis de Calon Segur is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It jumps form the glass with notes of baked plums, boysenberries, and Morello cherries, plus touches of sauteed herbs, pencil lead, and underbrush. Light-bodied, the palate is a little thin yet refreshing with herbal sparks to the red and black fruits, finishing savory.

The 2021 Le Marquis de Calon Ségur, which was bottled June 2023, has dispensed with that Right Bank allure it hinted at out of barrel. Now in bottle, this is firmly in the Northern Médoc, with blackcurrant, loam and just a light scent of pine. The oak is neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with just a touch of greenness on the entry, which I really like. There is a freshness and vibrancy to this Deuxième Vin that really comes through, showing a lovely granular texture and a hint of brine on the finish. This has kicked on nicely during its time in barrel and comes recommended.
