Etienne Sauzet
Puligny Montrachet, Les Combettes, 1er Cru, 2016
justerini & brooks tasting note
Youthful, vigorous but with a style and verve to go with it. A wine of huge presence and length. An intense core of buttery golden fruit, touches of acacia and citrus, but delivered across the palate in the most flowing and graceful of ways. Grand Cru quality. Exquisite. Sauzet’s example of Combettes is one of the great Premiers Crus of Puligny, up there with Caillerets and Leflaive’s Pucelles. From 50-65-year-old vines in the well exposed Combettes vineyard. Like Champs Canet this is mid-slope but with a little less limestone and more clay.
