Clos des Goisses, Brut, 2002
Intense, taut and tight-knit flavours combined with a richness and vinosity. Complex herb, stone, ripe red summer berry, citrus and nectarine fruit. Razor sharp, complex and powerful with hints of the exotic. Clear, fine and lingering fruit and minerals on the finish with touches of spice. Owned entirely by Philipponnat, Clos des Goisses is an exceptional vineyard that is steep, with a gradient of 30 to 45 degrees, and due south facing. A typical blend would be 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay. Approximately 30-40% of the wine is fermented in used oak barrels and is then aged for a minimum of 8 years sur lie in bottle.
critic reviews
The 2002 Clos des Goisses dazzles from start to finish. A huge, tropical Goisses, the 2002 pulses with exotic, tropical fruit wedded to a real sense of textural vinosity. Honey, almonds and yellow stone fruits are some of the many notes that blossom in the glass. The 2002 is just entering the very early part of its plateau of maturity, but it will continue to develop further nuance over the next 20-30 years. The level of complexity and overall sumptuousness make the 2002 nearly impossible to resist today. Disgorged November 2011.
