Flavours of juicy green apple, green gage and lemon balm abound in this friendly, fun, and juicy Kabinett. Hard not to like.

Pear and red currant, sea breeze and fresh ginger entice the nose; then are joined on a buoyant, polished palate by lusciously juicy, stimulatingly rind-tinged honeydew melon. The finish here is uplifting, consummately refreshing, and transparent to stony, smoky as well as mouthwateringly saline nuances. Mid-thirties in grams of sugar per liter has proven a sweet spot in the metaphorical sense: the fruit is reinforced but sweetness is not what you think about while relishing this gem. (The fruit source is as usual Frühlingsplätzchen.)

Emrich Schönleber

A great Nahe estate that was started by Werner Schönleber in the 1960s with just two hectares. Today the estate comprises 14 hectares, mainly Riesling, on the slate and quartzite soils of the Halenberg and Frühlingsplatzchen vineyards. Intense vineyard work and spontaneous fermentation in old oak casks together with ageing in steel vat conspire to produce intense, long lived Nahe Riesling that combines floral, charming qualitites with intense minerality. For the last five years, this estate has been perfoming to is maximum, rivalling Germany’s very greatest producers.
