Bordeaux 2023: La Fleur Petrus, Belair Monange and Hosanna

20 May 2024

Moueix Magic

It may be Whit Monday and in theory a bank holiday in France, but there’s no let-up in this campaign. Today JP Moueix has released La Fleur Petrus, Hosanna and Belair Monange.

The two Pomerols are true to form, both mighty impressive examples mixing sumptuous cores of fruit with velvety tannins. Hosanna presents its ever seductive profile while La Fleur Petrus offers a more composed, restrained, and sophisticated vision of the appellation.

Over in St Emilion, Belair Monange’s inaugural vintage produced in their splendid new winery is magical, displaying the class of the limestone Côte and Plateau – a thrilling, ethereal wine that does full justice to a magnificent terroir.

La Fleur Petrus

“The 2023 La Fleur-Pétrus is very attractive, unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark berries, sweet cherries and plums mingled with hints of incense and spices, discreetly framed by new oak. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, it's deep and textural, its rich core of fruit framed by plenty of sweet, powdery tannin.”94-96/100, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

Hosanna

“The 2023 Hosanna is a classic wine from this property. Rich, ample and explosive, the 2023 offers up copious dark-toned fruit, mocha, new leather, licorice and chocolate notes. As always, Hosanna is marked by its textural breadth, volume and dark flavor profile conferred by old vines planted in the mid 1950s, just after the 1956 frost. Of the 4.5 hectares, one was replanted in the early 2000s. The 2023 is a fine example.” – 95-97/100, Antonio Galloni, vinous.com

Belair Monange

“The 2023 Belair-Monange, 100% Merlot, is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It needs a few moments of patient swirling to allow delicate notes of warm black cherries, plum preserves, and raspberry coulis to emerge, followed by alluring hints of iris, cinnamon stick, and mossy tree bark. The medium to full-bodied palate is taut with tightly wound red and black berry layers, framed by fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness, finishing on a lingering fragrant earth note. This is breathtakingly gorgeous!”96-98/100, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, The Wine Independent
