Corton Charlemagne, Grand Cru, 2020

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Brilliant definition and verve to go with the complex, buttery mid palate. Ripe but crisp yellow fruit character interspersed with crunchy minerals. Melt in the mouth yet so palate cleansing; bright and beautifully balanced Corton. From two plots in Le Charlemagne, planted in 1972 and 1976, located in the upper part of the slope on the Pernand side of Aloxe-Corton where the wines offer ripeness and freshness in equal measure. Aged for 18 months in 155 new oak barriques.

critic reviews

91/100Neal Martin,Vinous

The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has an attractive bouquet with white peach, wilted white flowers, and touches of jasmine and broom. It shows fine delineation and presence, gaining intensity in the glass. The palate is well-defined, with a twist of bitter lemon on the entry. It feels a bit "hemmed in" for a Corton-Charlemagne, and I am looking for a little more fatness on the mid-palate. Resolutely linear with a strict finish, I find quality here stacked in the aromatics rather than the palate. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
