Barolo, 2021

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Fragrant but with a brooding power below, Altare’s Barolo mingles classy glossy sweet fruits with spices, licorice and coffee bean. Feels very complete and polished with beautifully judged oak. 2021 is the first vintage with Sorrano (Serralunga) included in the blend. Accompanying is Sarmassa (a plot on the border with Le Liste, in the Barolo commune), Pernano in Castiglione Falletto and Bricco Ambrogio in Roddi. Aged for two years in neutral barrique.

critic reviews

93/100Monica Larner,Robert Parker Wine Advocate

The Elio Altare 2021 Barolo offers a classical interpretation of the grape done in the house style that prizes extraction, intensity and sweet fruitiness. You get all of that here, exceptionally well presented in this epic vintage. Fruit is blended from Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, La Morra and Novello, and the wine sees 24 months in used barrique. Production is 11,000 bottles.

92/100Antonio Galloni,Vinous

The 2021 Barolo is a juicy, open-knit wine that will drink well on release but also has the pedigree to age well for a number of years. Crushed flowers, sweet red-toned fruit, new leather, spice and cedar build as this racy, succulent Barolo shows off its considerable charms. This is such a classy wine, one that shows the refined nature of the vintage off beautifully.
