La Villa, Langhe, 2014

justerini & brooks tasting note

A blend of Nebbiolo from Arborina and Barbera from Larigi, aged in 100% new oak barriques for 18 months. The Nebbiolo component is the dominant partner adding both precision and density. Perfumed notes of rose, blueberry and strawberry with overtones of spice and salt on the finish.

critic reviews

89/100Monica Larner,Robert Parker Wine Advocate

The 2014 Langhe La Villa is a blend of 60% Barbera and 40% Nebbiolo. Some 2,400 bottles were made, and that is 1,000 less than an average year because fruit selection was so rigorous in this difficult vintage. The wine presents a deep and super rich appearance with dark spice and thick black fruit. It's just a tad too rich and overdone, in my opinion, and the elegance of Nebbiolo has been taken over by the exuberance of the super ripe Barbera.

The 2014 La Villa is supple and inviting. The 60% Barbera/40% Nebbiolo blend works nicely within the context of the year. The dark tonalities of Barbera fruit with the aromatics and tannic underpinning of Nebbiolo yield an attractive, mid-weight wine to drink now and over the next handful of years.
