Bernard Metrat

Bernard Metrat presides over 10ha of vines, the majority of which are planted in Fleurie’s renowned “La Roilette” area where the red granite interspersed with clay layers produce wines that are both mineral and full of charm. At an elevation of between 280 and 300 metres above sea level, east facing and aged between forty and sixty years old, these prime-sited vines produce Fleurie of great class, freshness and character. Bernard is a member of Terra Vitis, a renowned environmental certification whose members adhere to environmentally friendly production methods. As such Bernard hand tends his vines from pruning to picking, as organically as possible, treating or intervening only wherever necessary. The wines are fermented in the “traditional” way, without use of carbonic maceration, and ageing takes place in used wooden futs and larger foudres.
